- Credited $85 diagnostic visit
Compare the costs of repairing your pool equipment versus replacing it. We look at age, parts and repeated failures to help you choose.
Evaluating your pool equipment
When your pool pump stops working, your heater fails to start or your filter needs attention, the first question is whether the existing equipment is worth repairing. A replacement is not automatically the right choice, even when a piece of equipment has been in service for years. At Kingfisher Pool & Spa, our technicians inspect the equipment, explain what has failed and compare the repair cost with the cost of replacement. We recommend replacing equipment when its age, parts availability or repeated failures make repair poor value, not on age alone.
Common equipment lifespans
Knowing how long pool equipment commonly lasts can help you understand what to expect when a repair comes up. InterNACHI and the US Department of Energy report that pumps and filters commonly last around 10 years, heaters around 8 to 11 years, and salt cells around 3 to 7 years. These are general lifespans, not deadlines. Actual service life depends on run time and water balance, so a technician needs to consider the condition of your equipment rather than relying on its age by itself.
Energy rules and upgrades
If a pump needs replacing, efficiency requirements are part of the decision. The US Department of Energy requires new pool filter pumps installed since July 19, 2021, to meet federal efficiency standards. In practice, that means variable speed pumps for most residential pools. We install Pentair, Hayward and Jandy equipment, and we can explain the replacement options that fit your pool and the problem being addressed. New equipment we install includes a one year warranty on installation labor, along with the manufacturer’s parts warranty. We register the equipment we install, although the manufacturer’s warranty length and requirements vary.
Our diagnostic process
Before recommending a repair, we need to understand what has gone wrong. Our repair diagnostic visit costs $85, and that amount is credited in full toward the repair when you approve it within 30 days. After diagnosing the issue, we provide a written estimate before work begins. You can review the proposed work and cost before deciding how to proceed, and we do not carry out additional work without your approval. Rosa Delgado, our founder, reviews every repair estimate over $1,000.
If you are requesting a visit, you can send photos of the equipment label, model number, error code or visible leak. These details can help us prepare for the appointment, but an on site diagnosis is still needed to determine the problem.
How Kingfisher Pool & Spa helps
Our repair technicians work on pumps and motors, cartridge, DE and sand filters, gas heaters, heat pumps, automation controls and salt chlorine generators, among other pool and spa equipment. Repair labor carries a 90 day workmanship warranty. When equipment has stopped circulating water, a heater has failed or there is a leak at the equipment pad, we schedule the repair ahead of routine work during business hours. We serve homeowners throughout the Las Vegas valley, including Henderson, Summerlin and Centennial Hills. Our aim is to give you a clear explanation of the fault, the available options and the cost before you decide whether to repair or replace the equipment.
