Call us when you noticeThese signs of pump trouble

The technician finds what failed and explains it before any repair begins.

  • Loud screeching noises

High-pitched sounds can point to worn motor bearings that need replacement.

  • Water under the pad

Puddles beneath the pump can be a sign of a failed shaft seal.

  • Humming but not starting

A motor that hums but refuses to spin can point to a bad capacitor.

  • Tripping the breaker

A pump that shuts off the power can be a sign of an electrical short.

  • Low water flow

Weak return jets can point to a clogged impeller or a suction leak.

  • Air bubbles in the basket

Constant air can be a sign of a leak at the pump lid or a valve.

From a simple seal replacementTo installing a new motor

We repair most major pool equipment brands, including Pentair, Hayward and Jandy. Our technicians test the motor, check the impeller and inspect the plumbing for suction leaks.

Pumps commonly last around 10 years depending on run time. If yours is failing, we explain what a repair costs and recommend replacement only when age or repeated failures make a repair poor value.

  • Bad capacitors and relays
  • Leaking shaft seals
  • Clogged or broken impellers
  • Plumbing connections
  • Motor replacements

Deciding between a repairAnd replacing the pump

We recommend replacement only when parts availability or repeated failures make a repair poor value.

Repair the pump

  • The motor is under a few years old
  • Only a single component failed
  • Replacement parts are available
  • The repair cost is low

Replace the pump

  • The pump is near the 10-year mark
  • The motor has failed repeatedly
  • Federal rules require a new model
  • A repair costs almost as much as new

Send a photo of the pump label

Our diagnostic visit is $85, credited in full toward the repair when you approve it within 30 days. You can send photos of the pump label and any leaks. Photos help prepare the visit but never replace an on-site diagnosis. You get a written estimate before any repair begins.

Common questions about pumps

All Questions
Do you repair variable-speed pumps?

Yes, we repair and install variable-speed pumps. According to the US DOE, since July 19, 2021, new pool filter pumps must meet federal efficiency standards, which in practice means variable-speed models for most residential pools.

What brands do you work on?

We repair most major brands, including Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, Raypak and Sta-Rite. If we install a new pump, it comes with a one-year warranty on our installation labor.

Can I just replace the motor?

Yes, if the wet end of the pump is in good shape, we can replace just the motor. The technician checks whether a motor replacement makes sense and explains it in the written estimate.

Do I pay for the diagnostic visit?

The diagnostic visit is $85. We credit this amount in full toward your repair if you approve the written estimate within 30 days.
